Mission Log - January 30th, 2017 - T3, W4 - Powerful Messages

Hello friends, family, and fellow disciples of Christ!

So many fun experiences this week!  So many sacred ones, as well.

We couldn't find a cheese slicer, so Hna Blow got creative:

Ah, solutions! :)

We shared a dinner message with the Quezadas.  Our dinner messages have fallen into a routine.  "How are you?  How was your day?  Did you serve a mission?  (No, I'm a convert)  Oh; how did you find the gospel?"  Then one of the "Big 3" - The Restoration of the Gospel, the Plan of Salvation, or the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Then a commitment to share the gospel with friends and family, to ask their friends and family to hear the missionary discussions, or to come out to a lesson with us (crowd favorite).

But Hermana Blow felt prompted to share Alma 14 with them.  It's the chapter when Alma and Amulek, after teaching the wicked priests, are forced to watch the sacred records and all their recent converts be burned.  We read up to verse 11.  We then asked them to think about how deep their faith is - would they be willing to die for Jesus Christ's true church?  (We said, "Don't answer us, just think about it.")  I also thought about it.  We sat in silence for about 3 minutes.  Then Hermana Quezada commented, "It's like that one hymn that talks about 'e'en though it be a cross that raiseth me.' "  We concluded by singing Nearer. my God, to Thee. (Mas cerca, Dios, de Ti in spanish.)  It was the most powerful dinner message I've ever had on the mission!

I came to the conclusion that I would die for this Gospel, because it is true.  I'm still not sure I would let other people die, yet; but in the context of Alma and Amulek, Christ wasn't even born yet!  Their faith was crazy strong.

We began teaching the Hermanitas Martinez again. We read Alma 32:28, and talked about faith.  This time we made paper flowers as we talked.  They were much more responsive to this teaching method!  We challenged them to "be flowers and pray, or photosynthesize, so you can grow and receive sunlight, or God's love."  They were excited to read the Book of Mormon after we left.

We are teaching a man named Julio Navar.  He has a ton of questions!  The first thing out of his mouth was, "Do y'all know who Melchisedec is?" :)  We whipped out Alma 13.  He's a reader.  He was very excited to learn that there is more scriptures and a living prophet!  He's not commited to baptism yet, because he was baptized Catholic and later on Baptist, so he's not sure if it's a mockery before God to just keep getting baptized.  We'll see him tomorrow. :)

Love you all much!  Continue in faith!  Remember who you are!  May the Spirit be with you...always.

We received a new missionary daily schedule, which includes more flexibility. Our district leader took us out to ice cream to celebrate! :)
